Introduction to the Case

Our detective focuses on a case that has rocked the media establishment, involving Matt Lauer, the journalistic name synonymous with morning news credibility.

Background of Matt Lauer:

Matt Lauer through the years was one of the faces of the news. He was hit with charges that could not be more serious, sexual harassment and even assault. For 2 decades plus, Lauer was a familiar face on our TV screens for the top morning news at one of America’s most popular morning shows. The versatile entertainer’s smooth delivery and charismatic presence made him a household name, not to mention the reassuring start of their day for many.

Accusations Unveiled:

Several women have come forward saying that the man has engaged in various forms of sexual misconduct and assault. Accusations include a story of inappropriate behavior at the workplace, involving such things as suggestive language and unnecessary advances made toward others within the work environment. Others have pointed out a power abuse mentality and victimization on the part of some accusers. There are the most serious charges of non-consensual acts.

First allegation

Brooke Nevils, a former NBC News employee says Lauer anally raped her in his hotel room at the Sochi Olympics. Nevils told Farrow that she was too drunk to consent, and also said multiple times she didn’t want anal intercourse. In Ronan Farrow’s book, “Catch and Kill”, Brooke Nevils detailed the charge.

Second allegations

One former NBC employee, who asked not to be named says that Lauer had sexually assaulted her in 2001. According to some sources, Lauer has been making sexual comments to her since 1997, when she started working at the media company. The woman told of one such experience in 2001 when Lauer invited her into his office, locked the doors allegedly unbuttoned her shirt, pulled down her pants, and had intercourse with her. She passed out and found herself on the floor with Lauer asking his assistant to take her to a nurse, but afraid of being fired she never reported it.

Other allegations

Most damningly, it was corroborated by dozens of current and former NBC employees. One even said that Lauer was fond of pitching the asses of ladies. He also makes sexual comments a lot.

NBC reaction

NBC conducts an investigation of Matt Lauer. With the investigation continuing, a decision was made to let him go.

End result

At the time we said that Matt Lauer’s conduct was appalling, horrific, and reprehensible,” NBC News says in a statement issued Wednesday. That is why he was fired within 24 hours of our first learning about this complaint. Because of a complaint that he was guilty of inappropriate sexual behavior at work, the long-term anchor left his post on Nov. 29, just one month after allegations surfaced concerning him sexually abusing subordinates.

Conclusion:

Now that our investigation is complete, the shadows cast upon Matt Lauer’s legacy cause us to consider how we should regard accusations of sex crimes.
